Julie Lyon, MD


Julie D. Lyon, MD, has extensive experience as an Internal Medicine and Hospitalist/Intensivist specialist for the last 18 years. She has been Internal Medicine Board Certified and maintains active memberships in the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) and American College of Physicians (ACP). 

Dr. Lyon was born in Salmon and grew up in Pocatello, Idaho. She attended the University of Idaho where she graduated Magna Cum Lauda with a BS degree in Bacteriology. Dr. Lyon participated in research in isolating/identifying Staphylococcus aureus type C animal toxins. She was accepted into the WAAMI program with the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she completed most of her third and forth year clerkships in Idaho. She entered her internship at the University of Washington/Boise VAMC. She completed her residency with Spokane Internal Medicine in Spokane, Washington in June 2000. Dr. Lyon returned to Boise, Idaho following completion of her IM residency to join St. Lukes Internal Medicine (SLIM) in 2000. She had a successful outpatient/inpatient practice with St Lukes, including being the first outpatient provider to become the 5th SLIM Hospitalist in 2006. In 2008, Dr. Lyon was asked to be the Hospitalist Medical Director for Complex Care Hospital of Idaho, a long term acute care hospital (LTAC) which opened in Meridian, ID in 2006. She has been involved in the development of 2 Hospital-based Antimicrobial Stewardship programs, member of many MEC/Governing Boards and served on many hospital committees. She is the VP-MEC at Advanced Care Hospital of Montana and serves on the Utilization Review committee.

In 2012, Dr. Lyon co-founded JC Hospitalists, PLLC to provide Hospitalist/Intensivist services to several LTAC Hospitals in Idaho and Montana. Dr. Lyon left JCH in 2016 and started work with Lyon Medical, LLC to continue her work with LTAC hospitals and expand her practice to in include Hospice, SNF/ALF, and post acute hospital care. Dr. Lyon has experience with training Medical students, Pharmacy students, nursing students, IM/FP interns/residents, Physicians Assistant students, NP providers and many patients/families everyday. 

Dr Lyon is excited to step into the classroom for the opportunity to start educating the Medical Students at ICOM and expand her knowledge about Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Lyon lives in Nampa with her husband, Sammy Grayson, and their 6 dogs and one barn cat. She raises and competes in Performance Halter, Trail and Western Pleasure with her AQHA horses. She is blessed to own Hes Inviting, her 2012 Reserve World Champion Performance Halter Stallion, and many other nationally recognized AQHA All Around show horses.
