Dr. Brian Martin joins ICOM as Associate Professor of Pathology.

Brian grew up in the Snake River Valley near Weiser, Idaho.  He did two years of undergraduate work at the University of Idaho and finished his bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University.  His doctoral dissertation was in the field of molecular immunology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Dr. Martin did his postdoctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in tumor immunotherapy and complement immunology.  

Dr. Martin’s research endeavors have been extensive.  While at the University of Iowa, his primary research was in neuroinflammation but he had other research collaborations that included work in immune complement, macular degeneration and tumor immunology.  Dr. Martin was a key part of the team that advanced an Ebola vaccine candidate from a preclinical asset to a Phase 3 clinical investigational drug in less than eight months during the height of the virus outbreak in West Africa. He was also the lead on a research endeavor to develop novel vaccine formulations for the Zika virus during the Latin America epidemic and his team formulated two novel vaccines.
